Liz Bradford grew up playing in the woods behind her NC home, usually with a bucket and little green net in hand and dog Max by her side.
She continues to explore the world today through her Art and Natural illustration.
Liz spends most of her free time riding her red bicycle around town, reading non-fiction books in sunny fields and being crafty in many ways-shapes-and-forms.
She is currently working for her Certificate in Science Illustration at the University of California Extension, Santa Cruz and doing freelance illustrations for an educational software company.
Artists Statement
"Ultimately, I am compelled to create to prove to myself that life wasn't all a dream.
Because I cannot touch my memories, I instead create tangible objects that I embed with facets of my life and knowledge. The imagery I use is a combination of the symbolic, the literal, and the random. I am fascinated with combining all of the disparate parts of my life and seeing how they come together to tell a new story. When the experiences and memories fade, I am left with a monument to my place in the world, frozen in time. The process is a cathartic one: a clearing of the throat in pictures and stories. And through this process, I can share these inner realities with others.
I use text from old books in my collages because I feel like I am painting with knowledge. I like to give new meaning & life to forgotten parts of our history in my artwork."
